Anyone that knows me, knows that I love candles. I particularly like this one because it is unique and also because my mother gave it to me.
This candle is fashioned after a "courting candle"
(The beeswax candle is pulled up through the clip and when the candle burns down to the clip, the girl's suitor must leave.)
I just love the history of this and the conversation that starts because of it.

  1. Very interesting candle. I'm glad they aren't found in every home! That candle looks pretty short..the guy would be leaving quickly..of course that is the idea right?

  2. With the amount of light this one candle casts he better leave quickly...who determines the length of the candle? It looks as he will be coming over often

You as a crafting person please tell me how this very long and very thin candle was formed

  3. Awesome candle, and great story to go along with it. Your story triggered my memory that I had heard about this sometime in the past. Thanks for the reminder--and great shots to show the structure of the "gadget".
